Crisis
Mammoth
Although
often unwelcome crises' precipitate change and change is progress. Just
as the seed emerges from its hard defensive shell in order to grow, so
too everything that changes from one state to another requires a temporary
state of imbalance. A child learns to lean precariously forward in order
to walk; sub-atomic particles require a state of imbalance to react with
others: the moment in between is crisis. This is therefore the most positive
of symbols. I know some crisis seem unjust or incomprehensible but I'm
sure that there is some way the collective consciousness benefits in the
long run. Here, the seed is splitting open, its elegantly curled tap root
reaches down in search of nourishment, leaving its defenses wide open
and yet it must risk everything in order to survive - the simplest of
images to impart the most important of messages, crisis leads to growth
if approached in the right state of mindThis is made from Mammoth, stippled
and deeply stained, a Netsuke to put in the pocket and handle in moments
of stress.Crisis is the second in a series of simple carvings with simple
messages which I have named 'The Charismatics' because there is a charm
about their elegance and economy of style.
