FEAST AND FAMINE
I had the greatest trouble photographing this carving which is a pity as I feel it to be quite a significant one. These shots are from the third and last attempt as it sold immediately after. Only now do I realise I have not a good one of the fat man's face

It is a double image, one side showing a wealthy man, bulging bags at his waist, throwing back his head and laughing. The other side shows him as a pauper, head down as if walking into a strong wind, his face wrapped in rags against the cold.

This is not a carving about injustice, it makes no judgements and has no political leanings; it is just about fate, the way things pan out. Furthermore, the fat man may be grimacing - perhaps he has stomach ache.

Carved from a piece of driftwood of unknown origin, it has been given many coats of cyanoacrylate to protect it. The fat man's face is made from Mammoth, that of the pauper from Pink Ivory wood. The signature is engraved underneath.
