Fishbone Fishknife
I came across a traveller at a local Green Festival several years ago. He was sitting cross-legged beside the path with a spread kerchief in front of him, upon which lay two strange objects and two rather mundane-looking bones. Upon closer inspection I was amazed by the perfection of one, a sculptural masterpiece, and the spikiness of the other. had to have both, of course, and in my delight gave him far more than he was expecting. When he had recovered he told me that they were fishbones although he had no idea what type. I suppose I should have asked him where he got them from but I forgot to. He may have just rescued them from the soup kitchen tent in which case he may not have told the truth anyway.
So here is the beautiful one made into the handle of a stainless steel 2" blade made by Brusletto in Finland, stained to accentuate its form and inserted into the rear end of a surprised and slightly disapproving fish made from Mammoth. The eyes are of amber and seem to follow the viewer, the fittings are of silver and it is signed in 22ct gold.
