HARVESTMOON
I bought this blade two years ago. What particularly struck me was its rustic appearance, the sharp contrast between the hammered and patinated outer skin of the metal and the silver of the sharpened edge. I took it out from time to time, waiting for inspiration, but I could not decide on what to make the scabbard from. Eventually a friend gave me an old fallow deer antler with a fine flattened area which was perfect. In keeping with the nature of the blade I decided to make the whole piece suitably rustic, which has worked out well. Although I am seldom pleased with my work, this piece has a very strong feeling about it, its solidity and purposeful nature impresses me still every time I pick it up. The handle is made from red deer antler, the blade is from Rosselli, a famous maker of knives in Finland, and the scabbard from Fallow deer. The scabbard is attached by a leather extension to the belt and the piece is signed on a 22ct gold plate.
